A Person-Centred Approach

Woman hugging older womanThis one day course will provide for those who are responsible for the care of people with dementia, both a  medical and social understanding of what it means to have dementia.

This one day course draws upon up-to-date research and  theoretical studies to emphasise the critical importance of a person-centred approach, and that how we communicate with individuals with dementia  is key to their wellbeing.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this course participants will have:
  • Discussed the definition of Person-Centred Theorygroup studying in classroom setting
  • Explored emotional needs
  • An understanding of dementia and the most common types and signs and symptoms.
  • Understand how dementia affects communication
  • Understand the need for positive and effective communication with the individual with dementia
  • Identified practical ways to engage with people with dementia using a range of communication approaches
  •  Identified the impact of interactions on emotions
  • Acknowledge the impact a care worker’s interaction skills can have on the person with dementia
