Advances in medical and social care have led to a significant increase in the life expectancy of people with learning disabilities.
Understanding the effects of ageing among this group, including increased risk of developing dementia, has therefore become increasingly important.
This course will use presentation, group exercises and discussion to explore the experience of a person with learning disability and dementia and provide information regarding current themes and best practice in supporting a person with a learning disability and dementia.

Explore the diagnosis and assessment of dementia in relation to an individual with a learning disability
State the role and qualities of staff in supporting an individual with a learning disability and dementia
Understand the person centred approach to dementia and learning disability in order to maximise opportunities and engagement
