MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE – news update on replacement of Liverpool Care Pathway

In July 2013 the findings from an independent review, led by Baroness Neuberger, into the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) were published. The report highlighted failings in the implementation of the LCP and recommended that the Government replace it with individual care plans by 14 July 2014.

Following the publication of the report, the Leadership Alliance for the Care of Dying People (LACDP) was formed by statutory and regulatory organisations such asCare Quality Commission (CQC), National Institute for Health Research and Health Education England, to whom the review panel addressed recommendations.

BBC NEWS – Dementia Facebook app to raise awareness of the illness

Facebook users are being invited to experience what it is like to live with dementia in a bid to raise greater awareness about the disease.

The FaceDementia app, by Alzheimer’s Research UK, “takes over” personal Facebook pages, and temporarily erases important memories, mimicking how dementia affects the brain.

Workforce Development Funding

Skills for Care have made £2.4 million available to employers through the Workforce Development Fund to support the completion of relevant accredited qualifications by those members of the workforce who support people with dementia.
